We will visit Rome mid March. I've been there before & know what we want to see. We're driving to Umbria & making the loop up to Assisi & Perugia. Any suggestions on what to see or where to stay? We thought we'd spend 3 nights south of Assisi & make day trips, then go to Orvieta for a 4th night. We like more rural areas than busy cities.
Ricks book as well as a number of others (Rough Guide, etc) cover the area; thumb thru them and see what appeals to you. You could choose from exploring hilltowns, the countryside, the wine region, etc. I would suggest picking a hilltown to stay in since a hilltown at nite when most tourists have left is like going back in time. Also I suggest bringing a portable GPS for the car; a real timesaver when driving!
I have Rick's Italy guide from 2005 & it's been very helpful. Looking at staying in Spello or Montefalco or Bevagna. Yes, we'll take our GPS along. Thanks for the input.
