marble statues of reclining madonna with veil and fisherman with net

Planning to leave for Rome this week-end. I cannot remember the cities where those marble statues are located. They were featured in a Rick Steves Italy program about one year ago. Can anyone remember the cities in which they were located? thanks in advance

Maria, because I couldn't remember these specifically I actually watched ALL of the "RS' Europe" Italy CITY programs during breakfast! Gotta love fast-forward...Anyway, I didn't see anything like you're describing.........What your marbles DID remind me of are two carvings at Cappella Sansevero in Naples.........go to this website, and look at these photos - ..... http://www.museosansevero.it/index_ing.html.........The only problem is this chapel/museum isn't in the 'new' series; he did go there in the older "Travels in Europe" series......If these aren't them, perhaps someone else can help - SOON !!! HAVE A GREAT TRIP !!!........<<EDIT>> OOPS! I had to leave the computer for a bit, and didn't refresh the screen as I usually do...Nadine and I are on the some page......This chapel will be my FIRST stop when I finally get to Napoli (sigh)............

I, too, think you are thinking of Naples. I saw the show years ago but have never made it to the church or museum where these sculptures are housed. Donna

I to think that Sansevero is what you are looking for. They have the dead Christ with a thin veil over his body, a man wrapped in a net and a standing Modonna. Saw this on Sammatha Brown so maybe there is a reclining modonna too. We'll be there on September 19 to see!!!

It's definitely Capella Sansevero in Naples. We've been there twice. The sculptures are fantastic!

Great work, Helpline Sleuths, in locating these statues! Your work has earned you an appointment to the Helpline Subcommittee for the Location of Obscure Statues.

Except, of course, that the Reclining Madonna is actually Jesus, but it's a very pretty Jesus...;-)......................Maria, if you're still here, is this what you saw?!?..............................Kent, I accept your (and Fredrica's) challenge...

"Except, of course, that the Reclining Madonna is actually Jesus." Yes, it's not clear that the statues found are exactly what Maria had in mind. But I wanted to give our Helpline Sleuths credit for trying. * * * Maria, are you still out there? Hello?

Isn't there also a veiled woman in Sansavero Chapel too? I don't think its Mary though and she's standing not reclining if I remember correctly. I think she's one of the virtues. The Veiled Christ is the big draw to Sansavero for most.

"Isn't there also a veiled woman in Sansavero Chapel too?" Oh yes! Go here: http://www.museosansevero.it/inglese/photogallery.html * * * and browse for the sculpture titled "Modesty", should be the thumbnail pic in the 2nd row, middle column. I don't know if she's all that modest?! ;) I mean, she does have a veil but it doesn't seem to be veiling too much.
