Maratea for two nights

Thinking if staying in Maratea for two nights in May 2021(hopefully). Any suggestions for hotels? City center or beach front? How far is the beach from city center? Thanks in advance.

Hi Charlie, When in May do you mean? I went to Maratea at the very beginning of May several years ago, and it was cold (inland Calabria actually had snow) and practically everything was closed. Apparently they just don’t expect tourists that early in the season, unless it’s changed radically since then. The countryside and coast were generally pretty, but we found the towns drab and subdued. I’m sure it’s more lively towards the end of the month or from June onwards.

Hi Charlie, I can’t comment on May. We were there in September 2014 and it was lovely, balmy weather. We were on a culinary tour and spent 3 nights at a gorgeous ancient Convent. It was built in 1735. We did a cooking class there. The restaurant food was excellent. I still recall a Tuscan Soup that was the best I had in Italy. The name of the hotel is La Locanda delle Donne Monarche. It’s centrally located, has a pool and parking. We would recommend staying there. We would definitely stay there again. locandamonarche.com.
