We will be renting a car twice when we travel this Sept. We will drive from Venice to Dolomites & then on to Lake Como(most likely driving the route from Bolzano/Merano/Glurns/ to Como as I have read this is beautiful scenery). Then later in the trip we will rent again in Tuscany region. We are wanting to avoid the autostrada except when necessary as we enjoy scenic drives & small towns. My thoughts are we need a good map in both of these areas. We will have a GPS however I'd like to get familiar with routes at home before we take off. Anyone rec. Michelin over Italy Touring Club or vice versa? Also I will have my ipad along. We usually use paper maps. We have never downloaded maps on the ipad, but I was thinking doing so would allow us two less things to carry . Any thoughts on that subject? I am just assuming we can order a version of these maps for the ipad as opposed to paper?? I'm also not opposed to printing off some good free maps off of the internet to save $20 but figured this was prob. a ridiculous idea :)
