Manarola-Ostello 5-Terre Hostel???

Since I'm travelling with my family of five, it's always a challenge to find affordable accomodations. We need at least two doubles or a quad family room WITH and extra bed (not always possible). I'm looking for something in Cinque Terre. R. Steves recommends this hostel, and it actually looks really cute. It's only 144 Euro for a six bed room with private bath in JULY. Has anyone tried it. It looks really clean & bright.

Kerry, the Ostello 5-Terre is well run and clean, but they have a somewhat "restrictive" and very strict "Lockout" during the day, which is a problem for me. I like to at least have the choice to come back to the room for a short rest in the afternoon. There are numerous "rules" also. ¶ You might find it helpful to read * www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187819-d286152-Reviews-Ostello_Cinque_Terre-Manarola_Cinque_Terre_Italian_Riviera.html * (cut & paste the weblink inside the asterisks). I'd really love to have my kids (13 & 8) experience a hostel. I think they'd get a kick out of the dorm rooms; but I am now concerned about the steep walk. We will have my mom with us. Is it really tough the walk?

Our family(4), stayed there a few years ago and it was great. Clean, comfortable and well run. Nice communal atmosphere. We had the cheap pasta dinner there one night and the kids liked it better than an expensive meal we had at Marina Piccolo. Hope all are in decent shape as it is a good uphill steep walk. Great views!

I read the reviews, had a laugh. Most were excellent with one or two really bad ones. The lockouts from 10:00 to 16:00 could be a problem; but still under consideration. Thanks!

I have stayed there a couple times... As long as you can deal with the lockout its wonderful. It is at the top of town but the views are stunning... Laundry facilities on site which is handy. The guys are totally nice and lots of people from all over the world there. The dinners they have were also quite good and reasonable.

The steep walk uphill has to be considered. If I remember there was a shuttle but we never used it. The hostel could tell you about that. There are other places in the CT that are more level where your mom could hang out. Most of the CT is hilly and there is no getting around it. Hiking is the main attraction. Not for the elderly or out of shape in my opinion. Monterosso is best for the non hikers. The lockout hours should not be a problem. No reason to be in the room from 10 to 4.
