I have tried to look up train schedules for trenitalia for a trip from Manarola in the C/T to Varenna in lake Como area to see how long of a trip and how many transfers are needed. Can anyone help with the info? we will be leaving Manarola on June 11, 2013. Thanks in advance Jim
Your subject title says Manarola to Sorrento. Your question asks Manarola to Varenna. Which is it? Trenitalia does not go to Sorrento so you won't see such a schedule. Please advise.
I'm Sorry, I had about four questions in my head at the time!! I meant from Manarola to Varenna in Lake Como area ! Thanks for bringing it to my attention, I thought I proof read my question, but didn't look at the main heading! Thanks again Jim
Jim, Manarola to Varenna-Esino will take 5.0-6.0hrs and 2-4 train changes depending on the run. Unfortunately, you can't see the schedules for June 11 as Trenitalia hasn't begun refreshing their schedules which is due June 8. I just looked and they are not there. However, you can look at the schedules for 2-3 days from now to get an idea of the train runs and fares. They won't change much once the u-p-dated schedules are loaded.
Thanks Larry, I'll check in a few days!! Jim
Jim, One of the easiest trips will be a departure from Manarola at 10:18, arriving Varenna-Esino at 15:23 (time 5H:05M, 2 changes, current fares from €27.85). I checked using next Tuesday, as June 11 is a Tuesday. Two of the trains are Regionale, so DON'T forget to validate! The trip from Milano Centrale to Varenna is 1H:03M. You'll go through a tunnel just before arrival, so BE SURE to disembark promptly as the train only stops for about a minute. Depending on which hotel you're staying in and how much luggage you're hauling, you should be able to walk to your hotel. Happy travels!
