I'm planning on getting data via esim w/ the airalo app. It looks like the provider is Mamma Mia. Is this a good provider. Will it work well in Rome, Orvieto, and Assisi?
Search on Reddit where there are some traveler reports. They seem mostly good, but not all. The service seems also to be called Airalo. One thread is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Airalo/comments/vbyz83/italy_trip_report_mamma_mia_plan/
Our son, daughter-in-law, and I all just used the Airalo Mamma Mia eSIM 10GB for 30 days in December and January. We were in Bologna, Venice, and Rome, and I was also in Ferrara. It worked great and I was especially glad to have more data than I actually needed when one apartment that was supposed to have Wi-Fi did not and I had work to do.
I easily added a top-up (we were in Italy for more than 30 days) for a bit more than $1 per GB.
The only small problem I had was when I went to "install and activate" the eSIM on my phone before our trip, I wasn't sure if it was OK to activate it early --- I didn't want the 30 days to start too soon, so I waited until the day before we departed. But it would have been fine --- it doesn't actually activate until you land in Italy.
I found this YouTube video more helpful than Airalo's video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rjwAKTYF9U&t=1347s
That video seems really good, but it is Apple-specific, so it can only serve as a general guide for Android users.
