We'll be in Malta for 18 nights in mid-January to early February, 2020. I have an apartment reserved in Valletta but I'm having second thoughts based on some negative comments in a few reviews.
Does anyone have a favorite spot that is reasonably-priced since we'll be there for a longer visit? It doesn't have to be in Valletta if it's a good option and has decent transportation connections.

I would consider splitting your time between Malta and Gozo since you have so much time. You'll get two different experiences. Gozo is more rural and has some really lovely farm stay type lodging (often with pools, although I doubt they would be warm enough to swim in that early in the year). Valetta is by far the most central location to everything in Malta, but if I had to choose an alternate location, it would either be Mdina/Rabat or the Three Cities.

We stayed at the Preluna Hotel in Sliema, steps away from the shore. Bus to Valletta city gates stop right at the hotel door. At the city gates you can find buses to anywhere on the island.
