I was in Malta in the month of March 5 or 6 years ago and it was a good time to be there. We stayed at the Preluna Hotel in Sliema which suited us nicely. There was a bus stop outside the door so we could get into Valetta quickly & easily. I suggest you get a guide book or do a lot of web research to know about all the places of interest. There is a good bus system and you can travel all over the island without difficulty. You can, as we did, take a day trip to Sicily to Mount Etna, should that interest you.
