As the previous reply indicated, Milano Centrale is the best location for purchasing tickets.
When you arrive at MXP, use the Malpensa Shuttle to reach Milano Centrale. Check www.malpensashuttle.it/e-default.htm for the details.
At Milano Centrale there are automated ticket kiosks at track level, but you'll probably find these are usually quite "busy". I believe these only accept credit cards, and AFAIK these will still accept magnetic strip credit cards (that was the case in June). The automated ticket machines in some countries (ie: CDG, France) now only accept the newer "chip & PIN" credit cards. The staffed ticket office is two floors down via "moving sidewalk". There's often a bit of a queue but that can vary. There are additional ticket machines adjacent to the ticket office and these will also accept Euro currency.
