Malpensa-train or bus from Milan Centrale?

I will need to get to a Malpensa hotel (Idea Hotel) from Milan Centrale sometime mid-afternoon. I have heard that there are both bus and train options to the airport. I planned to get to the airport, first, and then take the hotel shuttle to the hotel from the airport. My flight does not leave until the following day but I will need and want some de-compression time as well as do some actual "work" online.

Which is a safer option for a solo female traveler (in my 50s)? Which is an easier option? Does one have to wait in a long line to buy train tickets for the airport train? If the bus is a better choice, where does a person buy those tickets?

Thank you in advance :-)

I would take the train since it is not dependent on traffic and it is slightly quicker. Buy a ticket at a ticket machine or ticket window. Should not be a major line for a live ticket window.

lisa,

Using the Malpensa Express (train) is probably the best idea as it will be a bit quicker since it's not affected by traffic. Note that you can take that either from Milano Centrale or Milano Cadorna. You can easily buy your tickets from the Kiosks at Milano Centrale, which are located both at track level and two floors down next to the ticket office. Fare was about €10 last time I travelled that route. The Kiosks have an English-language option, so very easy to use. Buying a ticket from the ticket office at Centrale is probably not a good idea, as there's usually a HUGE queue. The ticket office at Milano Cadorna is generally less crowded.

As you probably noticed from the hotel website, it's very easy to get from MXP to the hotel, and they provided these directions.....

"The free shuttle service is scheduled: from 05am to 10:30am every half hour and from 6pm to 1am every hour. The shuttle stops at Terminal 1 in front of the exit 16 of the departures level (usually it stops at exit 7, but due to the ongoing work they have changed temporarily the stop). At Terminal 2 the shuttle stops near the pharmacy." See more at: http://www.ideahotel.it/web/en/idea-hotel-milano-malpensa-airport#sthash.HsUes3si.dpuf
