I was looking at taking the bus from the airport to Milano Centrale (also looking at the train) but when I tried to put in my dates (September) it said no tickets were available. do these tickets sell out or is it just because it is too far in advance?

Look like tickets only available thru 9/1. None for rest of September.
I think it must be too early- no way the whole month of September is sold out.
The train leaves every 13-20 minutes and does not require that you purchase in advance. I think that would be my first choice since it gives a great deal of flexibility. Cost 13 euros one way.
Also recommend the train. The train name is Malpensa Express, but as Carol said, there is no need to buy ahead of time.

It's likely that it's just too early. I can see out to September 1st, so perhaps they only sell tickets out 4 weeks in advance.
