Malpensa Airport to Milano Centrale to Varrena/Bellagio

I have read carefully all suggestions about getting to our Final Destination which is Bellagio. Still a little confused. We arrive in Malpensa Airport. Is there a train to Milano Centrale? If so, we do we find this train in the airport and what is the train called? Is it non stop to Varenna? We will ferry to Bellagio but how do we know what ferry to take. I see that there are car ferries, hydrofoils and regular ferries. Thanks so much!

The name of the train is the Malpensa Express. It is right at the airport, follow the signs. All the trains go to Milan, but not necessarily Milano Centrale, many go to Milano Cadorna, so make sure you get on the one going to Centrale. At Centrale you change to a train to Varenna. It is not a nonstop, but direct (no train changes on the way). at Varenna walk to the ferry dock and take the next ferry to Belagio. If it is a hydrofoil, it will cost a little more because its faster. Here is the TreNord web site with the train schedules. http://www.trenord.it/it/home.aspx
Use google translate if the English tab isn't working.

Thanks Sam. Now I do understand it better. I was getting confused because other posters were saying not to take the Malpensa Express but I guess it is still a Malpensa train. Thanks again for your assistance

Sam Forgot to ask - Is this train to Varenna the last stop?

Patty, the train to Varenna is not the last stop and it is A very quick shop. Suggest you rent the section in Rick's Italy book about catching the train from Milam to Varenna. It it is very enlightening and you need to be prepared to hope off quickly.

Patty, There are a couple of different ways to travel from Malpensa to Milano Centrale.... > Malpensa Express (train) - this is operated by TreNord and the trip is about 55 minutes. As I recall, they operate another route to Milano Cadorna station, so be sure to specify the correct destination. > Malpensa Shuttle (bus) - this operates from both Terminal 1 and 2 and drrops passengers at the side of Milano Centrale. Travel time is also about 55 minutes (less time if going from T2 - time depends on traffic). Both of the above have websites. When you arrive at Milano Centrale, you'll need to transfer to the Regionale train that goes to Varenna (the station is officially called "Varenna-Esino"). You'll probably have a short layover, as the trains to Varenna leave every two hours or so (as I recall, that route goes on to Tirano). DON'T forget to validate your ticket! The trip to Varenna is 1H:03M. You'll go through a tunnel just prior to arrival. Be sure to disembark promptly, as the train only stops for about a minute. The release for the door may be a push button or a lever. It's easy to walk down the hill to the Ferry dock. Go left across the small bridge and then downhill to the right. Look for Albergo Olivedo (large yellow building). The Ferry dock is in front of the Albergo. It doesn't matter what type of boat you take - grab the first one that's headed for Bellagio. The trip via car ferry (Traghetto) is about 20 minutes. THIS website should have schedules and other information. There's a small ticket booth at the Ferry dock, and in my experience the staff have some ability to function in English. Happy travels!
