I will be arriving in Malpensa airport at about 12 noon and need to get to Menaggio at Lake Como on 2-3 September. Please help in how to get there by train, and how often do they run? Thank you.

Sammee, A few more points to mention...... In addition to the trains, you can also take the Malpensa Shuttle (Bus) from the airport to Milano Centrale. Fare is €10 PP and the trip is about 50-minutes, depending on traffic. You'll be dropped off at the side of the station. Walk around the corner and up the stairs to reach track level. The method suggested in the first reply is a good one, and probably the easiest method. The trip from Milan to Varenna is ~1H:03M. You'll pass through a tunnel just before arrival. BE READY to disembark promptly as the train only stops for a minute or so. You can walk downhill from the station to the Ferry dock. When you get to the small bridge, turn left and then right and continue downhill. Look for Albergo Olivedo (bright yellow, you can't miss it). The Ferry docks are right in front of the Hotel. There's a small ticket booth there. Finally, as you'll be travelling on Regionale trains to Varenna, YOU MUST BE SURE to validate your ticket in the yellow machine prior to boarding the train. Those found with unvalidated tickets may be fined on the spot and it's NOT cheap! Happy travels!

Take the Malpensa Express train to Milano Centrale (not Cadorna). They run 2 trains per hour, there is an express at 1:22 pm arr Milano Centrale 2:05 pm. Change to regional train to Varenna-Esino dep 2:20 pm. They run every 2 hours. Arrive Varenna at 3:23 pm, catch ferry at 3:45 pm, arrive Menaggio 4 pm Ferries run every 45 minutes more or less.
