making train reservations online

I have been trying to book reservations on the ES train from Rome to Venice, first class. The problem is that although I have registered, I have never received my password which the site says it will send and is necessay to complete the booking. What am I missing. I want the fast train so I prefer to do this ahead, not wait and do it when in Italy. The site that I am using is trenitalia.com Help! I haven't had any trouble making online reservations all over Italy for hotels etc.

Hi Amy. Three possible reasons, but all are related to your registration. 1) The registration was not completed...didn't go through, or 2) the email address you provided had a typo, or 3) your spam filter (either on your computer or thru your web provider) is blocking the email message from trenitalia. You should get the confirmation email after registering almost immediately. Try checking you junk/blocked messages and or registering again.

Just beware that Trenitalia no longer accepts credit cards from the U.S. So, you will probably hit another dead end.

Some folks have said that they have been successful booking through Trenitalia, but I'm not sure that anyone has since their new, official, stance on this.

Of course, they wouldn't think of putting any of this on their website!

When I registered with my "regular" email via my ISP, I didn't get the confirmation email. But when I used my backup yahoo email account it worked. I was able to use my US credit card to make reservations in February. I have a neighbor that just made reservations with her CC last week.

Folks continue to use the Trenitalia site to purchase tickets using US and Canadian credit cards. It is true that many people have problems getting the charges approved. Sometimes this is a problem with their bank declining the charge, or the total exceeds the maximum allowed by trenitalia(approx €500 in any one month), and in other cases there seems to be a breakdown in the communication between the trenitalia banking site and north american banks (thus no attempt to complete the transaction is actually made). When people phone Italy to ask for help (and lots do) its fairly easy for the person at trenitalia to say "we no longer accept US credit cards" and a great deal of work(and probably not possible) to try and find individual solutions. So no offense is intended here, but that's a far cry from official policy, and might explain why there is no mention on the web of this new policy. It worked fine for me this month. My Visa card is issued by a Canadian bank but is cleared in the US.

In my experience, I received an email with a password within minutes. The password apparently is provisional and you must go on to the website and change it right away. I waited for two days and the provisional password expired. I obtained another and went on right away and changed it to my current password.

I tried to book on trenitalia before I left the states and was also told they were not accepting non european credit cards. I did call them because I didn't receive a password/pin. The agent gave me 123456789 as a password and I used it a number of times w/o a prompt to change it. Why don't you try it...they may give the same one to everyone who calls.
