We are planning to travel in May of 2012. How far in advance should we start making our reservations for hotels, bed&breakfasts and apartments? Thank you so much for all of the help you have given me so far !

It kind of depends on exactly where you are going, but I'd say now. I make lodging reservations as soon as I have the airlines set up and know my itinerary. I am particular about where we stay, so I start early contacting prospective places.

i would start as soon as i have the airline dates. i found the best rates when email to hotel directly but look for rates on eurobooking.com or caupona.net and check out reviews on tripadvisor.com if you need assistance i would be happy to helpyou narrow it down

Gerri, if you are using a booking service, some hotels may not have listed their availability for next May yet. On the other hand, if you have some hotels, b&bs or apartments that you really want to stay in, make the reservation as soon as you know your schedule - places with great reviews go fast!
