What is the cheapest way to call a cell phone in Italy from the US?
I recently bought phone cards for $.99 at the Dollar Tree store. Each is good for about 17 minutes to Italy.
The Dollar Tree deal sounds like the best, but I'd be wary of hidden fees, such as a connection fee, or a minimum usage fee, etc. Are the rates for calling a landline in Italy or for a cell phone? Calls to European cell phones cost more. For example, using Google's new telephone calling service, calls to an Italian landline are 2 cents a minute while calls to the various mobile companies range from 21 to 30 cents a minute. As I recall, Skype's rates are similar. If the calling card has a catch, Google and Skype might be the best alternative for cheap calls.
