I have been trying to make sense of the Trenitalia trail schedule. I plan to train it from Florence to Riomaggiore and stay 2 days then travel to Venice. When a * is beside a time, it is suppose to be the next day. Does that mean that the train leaves the following morning? I need to get from Riomaggiore to Venice before 5:00 pm.(17:00). Is this possible?
Here is an example of your routes on the Trenitalia website: (inputting Florence to Riomaggiore) Firenze S. M. Novella to Pisa Centrale - 01:00 hour Pisa Centrale to La Spezia Centrale - 00:51 minutes La Spezia Centrale to Riomaggiore 00:07- minutes (inputting Riomaggiore to Venice) Depart 11:23 Riomaggiore to La Spezia Centrale - 00:09 minutes La Spezia Centrale to Pisa Centrale - 00:51 minutes Pisa Centrale to Firenze S. M. N. - 00:49 minutes Firenze S. M. N. to Venezia S. Lucia - 02:03 hours Arrive 16:33 You would have to depart on this day by 11:23 to beat the 17:00 deadline. For a helpful explanation on the details of the Trenitalia website and how to read it, you might look at this post, Booking on the Trenitalia Website . Although all of this post will not pertain to you, the explanation of how to use and look up details on the website may help. When you're inputting your info, know that these two trips are about 3 and 5 hours each... and put in an appropriate starting time to get you there when you need to arrive. Hope that helps!
YEs if you see an asterick after the departure time, you have either cycled through to the next day by hitting next (successive) on the page or the starting time you input on the search box is too late and the next train is on the next day. A caution: when I see the words "need to get" somewhere by a certain time instead of want to or would like to, I think you might want to take an earlier train. There are three connections on that route. If you really have to be somewhere in Venice at 17:00, you'll only have 27 minutes to get there if everything goes as planned. Consider the 9:49 out of Riomaggio that arrives in Venice at 15:21
Is the order of your itinerary set? Riomaggiore to Venice is a long ride, and you could spend less time on the train if you switched Florence and Riomaggiore. Where are you coming from? Could you go to Riomaggiore and then to Florence? You would spend less hours on the train, and you would have more options to Venice from Florence.
