I'm helping my brother plan a trip for himself and his wife along with two other couples (no kids). They are all professionals with little time, but lots of money (ha ha). Anyway, the type of hotels they would appreciate, are not the ones I would choose for myself. Anyone have any 1st hand experience in luxury hotels in the towns mentioned (Positano/Sorrento/Capri). A pool is essential.
Positano--My wife loves Il San Pietro. May be her favorite hotel in the world after 4 visits including surprise long weekend for our 30th anniversary. Tennis court, pool with great view, small beach, the occasional hollywood celebrity, etc. If money is really no object, ask for a suite on the side of the hotel facing Positano. Just outside of town. Van runs back and forth to town when ever you call it.
In town-- Le Sirenuse is hard to beat.
In Sorrento the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria is considered the grandest. Went to tea with someone staying there and their marble bathroom was as big as some hotel bedrooms in Italy! We were shown around the rest of the place and were very impressed.
In Positano, I think you'll find the Il San Pietro will meet all your requirements:
Thanks for the suggestions. I checked out Il Pietro di Positano and it does look perfect for them! I love the outdoor areas and the views; I wanted to jump right into the photo's! Le Sirenuse looked too stuffy, albeit elegant! I will check the final suggestion next. Thanks all.
