We are arriving in Rome FCO and renting a car in May. We will be driving to our apartment rental in Montepulciano and are wondering about a place to stop for lunch. We are a bit worried about leaving the car unattended as it will have all of our luggage in it. Are there any road side towns/places to stop at?

I was going through old posts for fun, and saw that no one had replied to your post. We stayed in Montepulciano last October, you have made an excellent choice.
We spent a night in Orvieto, and drove to the upper parking lot in the town. There were a few places to eat near the lot, and a terrific view. Maybe you can contact the TI in Orvieto and ask. There are also some restaurants down below, before you ascend to the old town. Good luck and enjoy.
