Lunch in Lucca tomorrow...suggestions??

My husband and I will be taking our three kids 9,11 & 12 to Pisa tomorrow a.m. From Florence and then on to Lucca. We will eat lunch in Lucca. Suggestions on a good place to eat? Also, since I have read there may be no bikes available to rent this time of year, any other suggestions for things to do see while in Lucca?

Eat very good gelato at the gelateria (can't remember the name) on the piazza with the house of Puccini nearby and across from a church. I know that's not lunch, but it might do for a dessert. ;-) Walk around the oval square. Enjoy

lisa, I'm not sure if they're open for lunch, but you might try Trattoria Pizzeria da Francesco. It's about a five minute walk from the station, so very easy access. As I recall, when facing the station walk along the road on the left side, and you'll see the restaurant within a minute or two, on the left. The staff at the station should be able to provide directions. Buon Appetito!

If there are no bikes to rent (ask at the TI) then it is still fun and interesting to walk partway round the city on the wall path. Torre Guinigi might be fun. Stairs take you up the inside, to the top where you have a great view over the city.

It sounds like the place ken suggests is outside th ewalls on a busy street. I'd recommend you go inside the walls and enjoy the feel of this lovely medieval city. I'd take a look at Paris Boheme, Osteria San Giorgio, and Rusticanella.

Trattoria da Leo if its open for lunch. It's in the center of town.

Lola, Yes, the restaurant I suggested is outside the walls, but I didn't find the street to be particularly busy. I suggested it as the food and service were both good (at least IMHO). I dined at a few restaurants inside the walls and found the experience there to be somewhat "mediocre". I'm sure there are good restaurants in the centre, however I didn't have occasion to try too many of them. Cheers!
