Lunch in Lucca

can anyone recommend lunch inside the walls for Sunday . One recommendation was Nonna Clara. Another was Osteria Del Neni? Thoughts of these or others? As always thank you for your responses.

Visiting someone who lives in Lucca, we ate at Gigi Trattoria and liked it very much.

Lucca a wide selection of good restaurants.

Both Trattoria da Nonna Clara and Osteria Del Neni are solid choices. Osteria San Giorgio is in that same group. An osteria is to do more traditional, local, nonna-esque foods where a trattoria will have wider choices. I've heard really good things about Osteria la Dritta but haven't been. But there are many places in town in this class so really you are spoiled for choice.

Gigi Trattoria is a huge favorite with locals and looks like it's open Sunday. Osteria Dal Manzo is another pretty serious place. Piazza dell'Anfiteatro is mostly just for tourists but Sottosotto has the respect of the locals for doing great food. Any of these places you will need a reservation for.

Ciacco is one of my favorites but they do crostini, amazing sandwiches and huge salads. Not "serious dining" but a great place if you're not looking for a huge lunch.

Enjoy,

We ate at Trattoria Nonna Clara twice last May: once for lunch and once for dinner. The food is delicious, the outdoor dining area is lovely, and we also enjoyed eating inside at night.

We also loved our dinner at Osteria San Giorgio. We made advance reservations for dinner. They serve lunch from noon to 3PM. Not sure if reservations are necessary for lunch but it certainly wouldn't hurt if you choose to dine here.

All good suggestions so far. one of our favorites is Trattoria da Gulio. It's at the northwest corner of the historic center, just inside the wall. You may need a reservation. It's casual traditional and affordable.

Years ago in Lucca, we walked past the restaurant recommended by our hotel and followed our noses and the sounds of laughter.

One of our better restaurant choices. I’d never have come up with the name, except that someone above (Roberto) mentioned it … Cafe da Leo. But that was back in 2003, so I can only recommend you follow your nose and the sound of laughter.
