Lunch after Vatican Tour

We'll be taking the Pristine Sistine tour at the Vatican which will end about lunch time. Does anyone have any suggestions for a great lunch near this area? Nothing too fancy.... just delicious food that we shouldn't miss out on.
Thanks!!! Danielle

I wouldn't go to any of the restaurants near the Vatican. They are all over priced and not that good. Go a few blocks away, behind the Vatican and you'll find lots of great places.

A few blocks from the museums is Isola della Pizza (they have a website); they are open for lunch, they have great food - lots more than pizza. Closed on Wednesdays.

I wanna kick myself for not writing down the name haha!, but I remember the best pizza I had during the whole trip was at this spot. I am pretty sure it was near Borgo Pio. It was definitely east of the Vatican. It was pizza by the "weight" and the place had so many people the pizza was fresh and they were constantly pulling out new slices/pizzas. We found it because there were lots of people seating on the sidewalk and eating.

In his books Rick Steve mentions two streets for pizza near the Vatican. Viale Giulio Cesare and Via Candia. He also mentions Borgo Pio (which is the street I went to).

In conclusion, I would not have a sit down meal in this area; everything is overprice. Go for the pizza!

The best pizza we ever had was near the Vatican. Don't know the name but it was in a covered outdoor market. It has been 12 years and we still talk about it. I wonder if it is the same place. It just had cheese and porcini mushrooms. We are going back there and I will try to find it again.

Always look for the sign that says "Forno al legna" which means Wood Oven! I had pizza on Via Candia at a small place, just two blocks from the Vatican and it was awesome. I've found that anyplace that has a wood oven takes their pizza seriously and it's delish!

If you're sleeping near the Vatican, my absolute favorite restaurant in Rome is Piacere Molise on Via Candia as well. As you can see, I've spent a lot of time through the years in this neighborhood. I've eaten all over Rome, but usually sleep in the Prati neighborhood, and the Via Candia area is almost all locals and no English speaking tourists, so the food is better and less expensive.

Alice (ah-leech-ay) is excellent pizza a taglio all over Rome, but usually nowhere to sit and relax. If you want a good meal and a chance to sit down, try Osteria delle Commari, very close to the museum entrance. Open 1230-1430 daily, and for dinner.

Grazie Quirite! I love to have options! Looks like Panificio Mosca is loved by many.
