Luggage Storage Safety

Hi. I need to storage my luggage for 2 days and was thinking of leaving it in the florence trains station paid luggage storage area. From anyone's experience is this the safest option? I've heard a few scary stories of pick pocketing and stealing at the stations. Thank you!

If you don't leave anything 'worth stealing', that would be better. Take your valuables with you.

I have stored my bag for an afternoon in several train stations without a problem for an afternoon. I would be nervous about two full days though. Most of the time the bags are left in a room with a person guarding it. Can I ask what the situation is where you need to store it for that long? If you are switching hotels, maybe the hotel would be willing to keep it in their storage for an extra couple of days. That seems safer.

At most travel stores, you can purchase little plastic cable ties for one-use only. They often come with a nail clipper to use to cut them off. When I'm leaving my bag(s) someplace, I'll always use those cable ties to lock the zippers shut. It only works on some luggage zippers. And, yeah, don't leave anything of great value in them regardless.

Great idea Michael - I wish I would have thought of that. I use cable ties all the time for securing stuff around the house and never thought of them as luggage protection. You can get them at Home Depot in the electrical section for pennies and in all different sizes and diameters so that might save you a little money.

Hi, We did store our luggage in Venice. We did not leave anything valuable & I locked what we did leave. Nothing was taken. Thanks, Mary
