We will be coming in from Florence to visit Venice (but not overnight). Are there places to pay and storage luggage in or around the train station in Venice? Thanks!
Yes, right in the train station. They've been renovating the terminal so I'm not quite sure where it ended up.
There is also the "Keep Calm" point by the station.

Train station baggage storage was easy to use when I used it. It used to be at Binario 1.
Just because I am curious, where ARE you staying for the night? Are you flying out or backtracking to Florence?
Staying two nights at Hotel Spadai. We check in 11th & then fly out of Rome super early on the 14th. Part of me says to run over to Venice while staying in Florence to avoid hauling our luggage up to Venice and then back down to Rome on the 13th. What do you think??? I would be fine skipping Venice and spending 2.5 days all in Florence.
I am one of those travelers who think Venice is magic, and my girlfriend goes back and forth between Paris and Venice as her favorite place in the world. Venice benefits, however, from a several day stay, particularly when you get to wander the back alleys without rubbing elbows with all the cruise ship crowds who are in the city for only the day.
If I can't do at least 3 nights (5 is better) in Venice, I won't bother and will plan another trip in the future. I believe that your enjoyment factor would be amplified by spending the extra time in Florence, instead, which would give you the opportunity to explore not only the main part of the city, but the Oltrarno, as well.
Whatever you do, however, bring some Off! for the mosquitos. Florence and Venice have some really strong ones!
