Luggage Storage in Venice

Anyone have suggestions for a luggage storage place in Venice that could hold my bag for a few days? I will be traveling in Italy for five weeks, and then backpacking in the Dolomites at the end of the trip. I’d love to unload some of the unnecessary weight into a duffle and store it in Venice so as to not carry it all on my back while hiking! I’d appreciate any advice on storage places that are preferably close-ish to the airport.

I can't help with the airport but the station Venezia Santa Lucia has a left luggage service. It will cost.

Simple answer: the train station. The rate chart may be a bit confusing: 1st few hours are one fee then it goes down after that until it's pretty much a basic rate for the full day. Safe, secure and in the long run very physically/financially effective. In the back of my mind someplace I recall there's a 5 day limit? Someone maybe able to verify or correct that for us all.

You might also look at BagBnB. We used them once in the U.S. and were pleased with it. They have several locations in Venice. And, you could e-mail them and ask about a limit of number of days or whatever questions you might have.

There's a place with large lockers that you can book ahead on-line, called "Stow Your Bags - Luggage Storage" about three minutes from the train station. I haven't used it, but it gets good reviews.

A couple of weeks ago, the line for baggage storage at Santa Lucia was ridiculously long at about 11 am on Sunday. I'd hate to have planned my day around dropping bags there. If you store there, I'd try to determine locally when off-peak is and go then. Mestre might be a better choice if they have luggage storage, especially if you will take the ATVO bus to Marco Polo.
