My husband and I have to check out of our apt. at 10:30 on our last day, but we don't need to leave the island until sometime in the evening. We don't want to lug around our carry-ons, and were wondering if there was some place to store the luggage.

Depending on where you are in Venice, getting to Santa Lucia and dropping luggage then getting back to someplace central could take an hour to an hour and a half.
Try checking with the apartment rental folks to see if they might be able to accomodate you. Perhaps they could let you leave luggage at the apartment if a cleaning crew was going to be there. Or make other arrangements for you.
