Luggage storage in Pompeii

We are planning on taking the fast train from Rome to Naples then on to Pompeii... The question is...what do we do with our luggage as we will be going on to Positanio from there. Is there any place to store our bags for a few hours at either the Naples train station or within the Pompeii area??

If such a place exists... what is the charge??

Thanks for any suggestions you are able to give!!1

Right at the gate to Pompeii. Have no idea of the price but what difference does it make? It is what it is.

I just did an Internet search and there's a commercial Left Luggage location at Napoli Centrale station, operated by KiPoint, € 6,00 for the first 5 hours, then € 1/hour from the 6th to the 12th hour. For what it's worth, we didn't have luggage visiting Pompeii 5 years ago, but we did show up with suitcases at the Ostia Antica ruins west of Rome, and they let us stash our suitcases in the guard's station for free. It was early January, and if everyone had suitcases it would overwhelm them, and Ostia Antica's not as popular a site as Pompeii, but they did help us out. Demand at Pompeii sounds like it's required them to provide luggage lockers.

We didn't use it, but we saw the luggage storage counter at the ticket complex for the Porta Marina entrance to Pompeii, just opposite the Circumvesuviana station. Other posters here have been very satisfied with the service at the ancient site's luggage storage. Your situation is quite common, so many people have used the facility.

Because it's not that easy to get to Pompeii by public transportation from Positano, you are quite right to make this itinerary. Note that the Circumvesuviana can be very, very crowded.

In addition to free storage at the gate to the site, there's paid storage at the Pompeii Scavi Circumvesuviana station. If you have Rick's big Italy book, see p. 994.

cary_vorbeck,
Are you flying into Rome and then going to Positano or just leaving the city? Have you looked at the logistics of traveling from Rome to Positano? It will be a long day (several trains and bus) and you will be arriving in Pompeii in the afternoon, where it is very hot and no shade trees. It would be worse if you are planning on doing this on arrival day after a long flight. You might want to reconsider this or at least plan on another day.

The next question is how are you traveling to Positano?

Edit: if you are continuing on to Sorrento via Circumvesuvian, store your luggage downstairs at the station, it makes no sense to walk back and forth with baggage to the Pompeii gate even if it's free.
