Hi! I was hoping to get some info in regards to luggage storage. We will be traveling by train from Sorrento to Naples and then on to Rome. We are planning on stopping at Herculaneum and using their storage facility while touring the site. My question is, can we leave our luggage at Herculaneum while we catch the bus to take us up to Vesuvius and then retrieve it on our return before getting on the train and continuing on to Naples. I wasn't sure if the luggage storage was after entering the site and therefore we would not be able to go back in and retrieve it once we left or if they wouldn't really know the difference and we can grab it whenever.

The ticket office/ bag storage/ visitor center building is outside the entrance turnstile. Just pick up your luggage at least 30 minutes before the site closes for the day (by 19:00 most of the year, confirm when you leave the bags).

We inform all visitors that, in order to protect the frescoes and the environments of the archaeological areas of competence of this Superintendence and in order to guarantee safety of everybody, is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN to introduce inside the excavations of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Oplontis, Stabia and the Museum of Boscoreale, handbags, backpacks, luggage, cases, larger than 30x30x15 cm.
Visitors can leave their bags and personal belongings at the free locker room at the access gates.
However, during some periods the sites are very crowded and the locker room may not contain the baggage of all visitors, it appeals to the sense of cooperation of each person to ensure that the new measures can be fully applicated.

It appears the Vesuvio Express has luggage storage nearby.

running every hour from 9:00 to 15:00.
Ticket € 10,00 return fare - ticket office, luggage store and toilets available out of the train station on the left
Note the closing time.
If not available, you will have about a 20 minute walk to the site with your luggage.
