I will be traveling to Italy in May with a group of 26 college students, another professor and myself. As part of this trip, we will be traveling from Sorrento to Pompeii, and then on to Rome. I read in Rick's guidebook that there is luggage storage for free in Pompeii, but was curious to hear from people who have actually used it as to whether it would be big enough to hold 28 large suitcases, backpacks, etc. or if it was meant more for small bags. I was also curious as to how secure it seemed, and how close to the Circumvesuviana trains station it was located. Thanks in advance for your help!

The left luggage kiosk is just a couple of minutes walk from the Circumvesuviana station, right by the Porta Marina entrance. It's staffed at all times. I stored a 20" roller bag there with no problem. Backpacks should be fine, but not certain how large a suitcase they can handle. You could e-mail the Information Office at infopompei@tin.it and inquire.
