Hello. The first part of our upcoming trip to Italy includes a wedding in Florence. From there, we are taking a train to Salerno and then going to Positano. We would like to ship home our wedding clothes--tuxedo and such--so the we don't have to schlep it all over the place. Is there a DHL, Fed Ex, or something similar in Firenze Santa Maria Novella? Any other ideas? Thank you!
Yes, I've shipped with DHL several times from Italy. Your hotel should be able to arrange this for you. Mine have always packed up my items in a cardboard box (not wedding clothes, though!!) with bubble wrap and taken care of the shipping details while I paid only the cost of the shipping service. I think DHL is the way to go for something valuable like wedding clothing. The post offices are much cheaper but I would not trust valuable items to them...although when I've done so my packages have always arrived intact.
Thank you. I don't think our accommodation will be helpful in arranging it because we are not staying in a traditional hotel--we'll be here for the wedding, and they don't seem to be able to help with this type of thing: https://www.medicivilla.com. We'll have plenty of time at the train station, though, so I was hoping we could find a DHL shipper there and handle it ourselves.
You could try the MailBoxes shop at via della Scala, in front of the Santa Maria Novella pharmacy, about 5 minutes walking from the railway station.

I have used Send My Bag to send things from the UK to the US but they also work in Italy.
You don't need to have a bag as they also accept boxes. They use DHL to do the shipping. My shipment arrived in 4 days.
Another vote for Send My Bag. This is what they do. There is subcontracting involved, likely DHL, but they handle all the details including customs and their website will tell you exactly what you need to do.
Probably obvious but you should think about where you are going to send it if you are not going to be home to receive it. Hopefully you have someone who will hang on to your wedding clothes for you until you get back. Bring them something nice from Italy as a think you and it should all work out.
Have a great trip,

In 2023, we used the DHL at Via Faenza 72, which is near Mercato Centrale and Firenze SMN. I would highly recommend them and would use them again. We were in the store on Friday afternoon (staff were fluent in English) and the box was on our porch and retrieved by our neighbor Monday afternoon. The box and its contents were in excellent condition.
It was not cheap, but worth it to us.
Agree in full with DHL.
But that hotel for the wedding party says on their site that everything is possible. It's a full service property and I'd ask them to arrange shipping. As kooky as this sounds, I travel with bubble wrap and tape and scissors so I can pack boxes with things I've bought (mostly food items) and send them home. But you do not need to go that far!! especially for clothing. I would give the hotel a chance... Then you don't have to bring all your stuff to a shipping agent...DHL picks it up.
I sent a pretty large box from Catania last fall; I think I wrote this: Hotel packed it up, using bubble wrap to protect the bottles of oil and pestos, etc.....they called DHL for me the day zi was leaving, so I left the box at the hotel and they took care of the shipping; I paid online with my cc to DHL and got the book a few days later, back in the US.
Thank you for all of the helpful replies!
One thing I’ll add is that shipping from Italy to USA takes A LOT less time than the reverse. Your items will arrive home before you do.
We'll ship back to my husband's office, so no worries about the bag making it home before we do. Thanks.
