Luggage lockers

My wife and I are headed to Italy in October - 1 year anniversary. Knowing how critical it is packing efficiently, do you recommend using the luggage lockers at Assisi, Florence, Pisa, and Milan? If so, what is the average Euro price?

When we were in Pisa the other day, there were no lockers that were in service, and the baggage check was on strike. We rolled our bags to the tower and back. We were able to leave our luggage at the bag check prior to our tower climb. The pick pockets were brutal that day, but I'm sure they had plenty of success since every tourist was getting on and off the bus with hands full of luggage. That's the only place we encountered them.

As for the other stations, I can't say.

You say "luggage lockers" but in Italy and much of Europe these days luggage lockers have been/are being phased out for security reasons, in favor of airport-style baggage checks; these charge an hourly or daily rate and are available at most larger train stations--but things happen, as the first poster explains.
