Luggage Check in Milan

Hello fellow travelers! I will be making my first trip to Europe in 10 days. Wahoo!! I will have about 1 1/2 hours between trains in Milan. My train arrives at 5:45am. I want to catch the subway to go see the Duomo, but I'm not sure what to do with my suitcase. From what I can find, you have to actually check your luggage for 4 Euros, no lockers available. Is it worth the money to check my suitcase while I make this quick trip? The only luggage I will have is my backpack and the RS 21" Rollaboard.

Thanks for your help.

I assume you'll be at Centrale. If so, I don't think the baggage check opens until 6AM. In case it is, go straight ahead from where you get off the train. Go out the main entrance and veer to the right and the baggage check is through a door on the far wall. The sign isn't very big, so keep an eye out for "bagagli". I think it was 3.60 euros for the first 3 hours. For the metro station go down the stairs or escalator to the main entrance and there are steps that go down to the station. Look for the big white and red sign with a "M" on it. Buy two tickets (either 1 euro or 1.3 euro)from the machine one for the way there and one for the way back. Go thru the turnstyle and get on the yellow line going south and get of at the Duomo stop (the 4th one) from Stazione Centrale. Go up and the Duomo is right there. I'm telling you all this because 1.5 hr is pretty tight. Can you get a later train?

Yes, I will be at Centrale. I am going to Turin from Milan and trains leave every 30 minutes, so the time won't be an issue. I just wanted to try for the first train out. Sounds like I may not make it.

Thanks for the specifics on where I need to go. I didn't want to miss the opportunity to see this magnificent church.

3.60 was a typo I think it was more like 2.60/bag and I found an unofficial website that said it was open from 4:00AM-1:30AM
Sorry

We wanted to accomplish your same mission several years ago. So we checked our bags at Milano Centrale, got on the subway, went the 2 or 3 stops, and Voila! The Duomo in all its glory. I remember the marble pillars being so massive, and the inlaid floor was incredible. Also the Galleria is right there for a quick walk through, and behind it is La Scala. If you have time walk up on the roof of the Duomo.

4 euro is not a lot of money and worth paying it, instead of carrying or rolling a luggage. It will be hard to do it. I only had a small daypack I carried from JFK to my hostel via subway and it felt heavy.

We checked luggage at the train station in Milan a year ago--we had four pieces and I believe 3.50 E was the amount per piece. We encountered a long line at the baggage drop but it moved quickly. Everything was placed on a trolley (just our bags) and securely stored. It was well worth it to be free of it and we saw the Last Supper, Duomo, and various sites. The baggage drop is on the main level as another poster described.

Definitely check the luggage. One piece of advice: If you see a bunch of backpackers getting off an arriving international train- RUN to baggage claim. Every one of them will be heading to the bagagge room to drop off and you want to beat them there.. Likewise, allow enough time picking up just in case you get at the back of a backpacker line.
