luggage capacity Fiat Grande Punto & VW Polo TDI

Anyone have any experience with these rental car models? I know I can squeeze our bags in both SOMEHOW, but does anyone know how many bags each one of these models can actually carry in the luggage compartment? We have 2 adults, 1 child and 2 24'in backpacks and a medium sized 26' in rolling dufffel.

Tracy, I've never rented a VW, but several times we've driven the Fiat (Fix It Again, Tony) Punto. It is a pretty roomy small car. Two of the three bags you mentioned will easily fit in the covered luggage compartment, and the third will likely have to occupy the back seat with your child. With the price of fuel now, larger cars are not much more expensive than small ones. Once you get your car, if it seems too tight, you can probably change rather easily.

I don't know about the "Grand Punto", but I drove a Fiat Punto for almost 5 weeks in Sicily. I'm very impressed with the car- I'd own one if I could afford it.

We could fit 3 adults with their luggage in the car without any problem. 4 with luggage got a bit tight, but was manageable. The luggage included both suitcases and backpacks (we were on an archaeology dig).

Based upon memory- I would say that you could fit 2 BIG suitcases in the luggage compartment, as well as stuffing in some smaller stuff around the bigger suitcases. It would also hold 3 suitcases if they aren't huge (like some of the students brought).

I'd advise getting the diesel version if you do choose the Punto. It's powerful enough, and seemed to get good gas mileage.

Hi Tracey
Just back from Italy and rented the Fiat in question and we packed two 26" suitcase in the luggage area. It was tight but does work. Great car.

Thanks all for your advice. I have just booked us a Grande Punto with Rick's recommended Veronarentacar.com. If our actual rental goes as smoothly as our communications have been so far, I would consider them a dream to work with. I'll let everybody know. So far, they have been great.

You wont have trouble getting your passengers and luggage in either model. Once I had a problem forcing my luggage in the trunk; so I carried one small bag on the rear seat floor. My wife consoled me by saying everything doesnt have to go in the trunk. And she is right.
