We will spending 2 days in Capri, ferry to Sorrento and make our way to Pompeii, do a tour and on to Rome. My question is, can we leave our luggage at the train station in Pompeii and pick them up when we leave for Rome?

There is a baggage check at the main entrance to the Pompeii site. The train station does not have any facilities but is very close to the site. I believe there are two train stations in Pompeii - just make sure you take the Circumsuviana train from Sorrento that goes to Naples central station. The Pompeii Scavi stop is the one closest to the site. All the transportation details are in Rick's Italy and Rome books.
