I'll be traveling on 6/7 to Varenna from Lugano. It's a Sunday so there are less buses available from Lugano to Mennagio. Anyone have any issues getting on the bus, is it crowded and where do you buy the ticket? I went to the website and it's very difficult to navigate and it looks like you can't buy tickets on the site. Also I want to leave from the bus stop by the train station and the website does not show that stop. We arrive in Lugano on 6/5 so hopefully we can figure it out and maybe get tickets in advance of 6/7. Thanks so much.
You don't need to pay in advance. You can pay the driver.

Traci,
I’ve not taken this bus but have researched the bus timelines when I’ve helped others here planning the same journey as yours, or in reverse. I’ve taken many trains & buses on previous trips to Italy so had to learn how to read these timelines! And I agree, they can be very confusing, but once you figure it out, you’re set!
I have visited Lake Como but not Lake Lugano (yet!)
Having said this, you’ll want to double check as to the accuracy of these bus timelines.
I presume you found the official website for the
AFS Bus lines
You can find the C112 bus timeline under
“ Linee Extraurbane“
Here’s the C112 bus timelines:
- scroll down to the last page ( pg.9) for explanation of abbreviations above the bus times.
- at the very bottom of page 9, you’ll see “FES3 Festiva esclusi 1/1 - 25/12” (Public Holidays excluding 1/1 & 12/25)
- Now go to page 8 to see the “FES3” bus schedules
- There are buses departing from Lugano train station @ 9:25, 11:50, 13:55, 15:50, & 18:45.
I hope this helps.
Enjoy your trip!
Thank you both for this very helpful information!!!!
