Has anyone flown Lufthansa to Milan? A 2hrs layover in Frankfurt. Just curious about their economy class comfort and service.
Better than most, though economy just keeps getting worse across the board these days. I would recommend Lufthansa with no reservations. Be sure they don't stick you on a United codeshare.
Good luck with Lufthansa especially if they decide to cancel your flight last minute as they did for our group of 21 people. My phone started blowing up with text messages on the morning of our departure...CANCELLED CANCELLED CANCELLED etc. We had booked the tickets directly from Lufthansa website many months in advance.
Proactive help from Lufthansa was almost zero, and my wife had to deal with them rather ferociously to get the group back onto a flight from Munich to our destination Rome. MANY hours later we actually arrived, but without luggage of course.
Today we received our first installment of compensation from Lufthansa only after again having to fight tooth and nail for it.
But in the end - is there really ANY decent airline out there?
We've flown on Lufthansa several times, both transatlantic and within Europe. They're no better or worse than most other legacy airlines.
I have no issues with Lufthansa.
I was using my United Miles, as they both are apart of the Star Alliance. Only one of our legs was with UAL, which I try to avoid if only because their 747s were the oldest in the industry, thankfully they retired them all.
Food and service was fine, seating was acceptable, clean and not worn-out; comfort is a relative term in coach. The head-rest entertainment worked and had a variety of programing.
I've had no issues with Lufthansa and my flights have been much better than British Air and American Airlines. I fly into Bologna every year via Munich from Charlotte NC. There are a couple of seats with extra leg room and I paid extra since I am 5'10 and my husband is 6'2". From Munich we do take Air Dolomite.
Hey Deb, you need to take Tim’s post with some huge grains of salt. His large group ran into a weather issue that caused major disruptions in the airport and flight schedules, he excoriated Lufthansa here for not immediately taking care of his group, his group was actually taken care of that day.
There is a reason that Lufthansa was once again ranked in the top 10 airlines globally. In the meantime, economy class on a Airbus 320 or 321 is pretty much going to be the same whoever owns the plane.
The best airline in my book.
On our Economy Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Florence last September, a Flight Attendant "snuck" my husband and I a fresh, soft, German pretzel meant only for First Class passengers. Sneaky pretzels are yummy!
We flew( a party of 4) from Miami to Rome, with a connecting flight in Munich in Oct 2017. We had gotten really cheap tickets(under $400) and I started freaking out thinking maybe the airline was not very well rated. (We are spoiled by Delta) It ended up being one of our best flights and yes we flew economy. Lufthansa was excellent.
We loved our flight on them. They were very nice to our kids unlike all of the US airlines we have flown.
A dissenting voice here. We were booked on United to get to Istanbul. Having heard good things about LH, I was pleased to find we were actually flying with them. What a disappointment! Outbound, the seat in front of me was broken, so that when the occupant reclined, she was practically in my lap. The attendant just shrugged when I spoke to her (politely, in case you wondered). Several people a few seats back must have gotten drunk and were talking and laughing very loudly all night long. Again, the attendants paid no attention.
On the return flight, we were served a disgusting mess of sausage, sauerkraut and potato—no other choice. Even the smell made me nauseated.
Other flights on LH have been no better than most we’ve taken on United or Delta.
Flown with Lufthansa on two trips, technically. First outbound, Chicago to Paris, I had not read the fine print saying 'operated by United', a codeshare. What a cluster. Tiny seats, no legroom, just sardine-can-like. Not fun, even on what should have been a relatively easy 7 hour leg. United should have been ashamed of themselves to offer such shoddy service. Never again abroad, or even domestic if I can help it.
Return flight on that trip was Naples-->Munich-->Chicago actually on Lufthansa, and it was like night & day. At least a foot more room, attentive attendants, decent food, movies in the seat back. And then we flew Lufthansa a year ago March Chicago-->Frankfurt-->Rome, in which my wife decided it was worth it to upgrade to business class on the first leg. I had gotten a great deal on the seats in the first place, so why not? Really nice--I could stretch out completely prostrate. And then we did Economy Plus on the Munich-->Chicago leg of the return, which provided another 6-12" of room in front & was a good value in my eyes.
Bottom line is that like Roberto, I think Lufthansa is best in class although I have heard good things about Swiss Air & Aer Lingus. And my strategy going forward will be to book the best deal I can on the LH website, then upgrade to Economy Plus, which I think is $295/seat.
Note that Swiss is owned by - Lufthansa.
