Lucerne to Dolomites.

Hello fellow wanderers. My husband and I are traveling to Europe for 3 weeks beginning mid September of this year. Flights and accommodations are booked. We start in Lucerne for 4 nights. Then on to the Dolomites for 6 nights, Lake Garda for 5 nights and ending in Venice for 3 nights before we fly home to Indy. We will not have a car. My question is I’m trying to figure the best route for the Lucerne to Ortisei leg. I’ve decided to break up the 7-8 hour trip by going to Innsbruck for one night and then travel down to Ortisei via train and bus. Does this route make sense? I believe the train trip from Innsbruck ends in Chiusa? Then it’s either bus or private driver. Any thoughts? Thanks so much.

Sounds reasonable. You can get the precise schedule for your day of travel at https://www.suedtirolmobil.info/en/#/
Use Innsbruck Hbf as the start and Ortisei Piazza San Antonio as your destination or other if you know it. Should take about 2 1/2 hours.

Innsbruck for one night is too much bother for me. Alot of hanging around but I'd do this:

1) Catch the 07:35 train to Innsbruck, change at Zurich.

2) Catch the 13:24 to Bressanone/Brixen (in the direction of Bolzano and further)

3) Catch the 15:53 bus (number 360) from Brixen to Ortisei. May have to wait about an hour here, unless you want to take an expensive taxi.

There may be a quicker route involving more changes.
