Lucca vs. Chianti vs. Both

We're spending 2 weeks in Tuscany in May with our two children (ages 4 and 6). For our first week, we have rented an apartment near Montepulciano. I'm having difficulty deciding what to do with our second week and am looking for suggestions from people more familiar with the area.

We have 6 nights. I am trying to decide if we spend half of that time somewhere near Panzano/Greve and half in Lucca or if we spend the full 6 nights in Panzano/Greve. Or should I choose a home base somewhere else, where Lucca would make a more reasonable day-trip?

We will have a car. The only requirement is that we be within about 30 minutes of Florence for the final nights of our stay, so we can easily make our departing flight.

I think you have enough time for two bases. Lucca is very child-friendly, parents take their kids walking and/or biking along the wall, I think that makes a nice routine for kids.
