We had a great meal at Gigi Trattoria http://www.gigitrattoria.it/. It's off Piazza del Carmine. My Italian friend joined us. It was his first time in Lucca and he gave it a thumbs up.
Leos. We rented an apartment for a few days, and this was a place the owner recommended. Friendly staff. Inside much nicer than street side tables.
Make sure it wasn't blown away in the storm 2 days ago.
had to look back at my blog and see where we ate - both we really enjoyed. Trattoria de Leo and Osteria San Giorgio - both we were lucky to get at table, packed. I would make reservations!
We also loved the gelato at Gelataria Veneta.
Bikes were super fun, as was the Torture Museum and the Guinigi Tower (probably spelled that wrong!)

My wife and I ate two evenings at Trattoria Pizzeria da Francesco which is near the train station. It was packed with locals and we were the only tourists. I think it was recommended by the Hotel Rex. My favorite meals of the trip.
Same exact story as Richard, but I just ate there once. Other dinner was at da Leo, which was great too. Also there is an excellent Grom gelateria in an ancient building on the main shopping street in Lucca. This a chain with locations in many cities in Italy, I found it always excellent. Since they are hygienic, their gelato bins are covered, rather than open and piled high with colorful and photogenic mounds of various flavors. So Grom is generally better for eating than for photos!
This thread is stale. OP was visiting Lucca at the end of March.
