If anybody has a good recommendation for a hotel in Lucca, please let me know! We would prefer to be inside the walls, but not elaborate or overly expensive.
Thanks!
Not quite inside the walls, but Hotel Rex is next to the train station and very convenient if you are arriving by train. It's just across the street, from the wall and one of the entrance gates.
Also just outside the walls is the Hotel Melecchi. Large sunny rooms. Family run and quite inexpensive compared to most inside the walls.
Patrice, we also stayed at Hotel Melecchi (upon Doug's recommendation) & felt that it was a good value. We had a car, so it was important to find a place with parking. We were only there for one night but it served our purpose. We found the room and hotel to be basic but very clean and the owners were extremely friendly. It's within easy walking distance from the hotel to the city walls.
Absolutely stay inside the walls. We stayed at the Piccolo Puccini and would have no hesitation about staying again.
Patrice, I'd also recommend Hotel Rex. Although it's outside the walls, it's only a short walk into the main part of the city. It's a VERY easy walk from the train station. The decor was a bit "older" but the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff were great. There's a great local restaurant within easy walking distance from Hotel Rex. They serve both Pizza and Pasta dishes. It seemed to be very popular with the local residents as well as tourists. I'd have to check my notes for the name of the restaurant. Happy travels!
Patrice,
Piccolo Puccini or the Universo (look for third party deals) are good hotels inside the wall.
