Hi, it appears possible. Has anyone done this? What did you do while there? Grazie
Is possible. Went by bus. Rode bikes along the wall and around the town, climbed the tower, ate, shopped, enjoyed.
Why did you take bus and not the train? Thanks for answering.
I went from Florence to Lucca by train. It was easy. We rode bikes around the wall, wandered about and enjoyed a free musical act we stumbled upon.
Went by bus because we were on the RS 7 day Florence tour and it was part of the 7 days.
Very easy on the train. It's a 90-minute ride from Florence to Lucca. Fare is 6.40E. Many travelers do day trips to the Cinque Terre which is double what you wish to do. On some runs, there is no train change. On others, there is 1 and sometimes 2 train changes. These are all Regionale trains. Regionale trains are like buses. They make every stop and there are no seat reservations permitted. Also, you cannot buy them online more than a week out. Just buy your tickets in Florence the day before you travel. The trains cannot be sold out as, like buses, you can stand if there are no seats.
perfect. thanks, all
We took a train from Florence to Pisa. Took bus from Pisa train station to tower. I was suprised at how much fun we had taking the stupid tourist pictures at that sight. Only takes an extra hour or two and I think it is worth it. We then took a bus to Lucca. You can catch a bus right in front of the tower - just get the ticket at a nearby bar. Took train back to Florence from Lucca. Note - we did not buy any tickets in advance for any of the transportation.
Forgot to mention that the bus ride from Pisa to Lucca is very scenic.
Lucca is a great place and definitely worth a visit. There are a couple of towers that you can climb. My favorite was the one with trees growing on top. Nice little city to walk around, you can rent bikes and ride around the top of the wall the surrounds the main city. Wonderful restaurants.
Don't miss Lucca !!!!
