lucca, arezzo, bologna, pisa

I'm considering taking a week long class in lucca, arezzo, bologna or pisa. I have not been to any of these cities yet. (I've been to Rome, Cortona and Florence) I'm just interested if anyone has postive or negative feedback to help narrow my choices. Thanks!

I've visited Lucca, Arezzo, and Pisa. If I had to choose one of these three places to stay for a week, I'd probably choose Lucca. It is just a really pleasant Italian town. While I have not been to Bologna, that could be good choice as it would have great transportation connections; you'd be less than an hour from Florence, Verona, Parma, Padua, etc. Plus, Bologna is supposed to have fabulous food (not that you can go wrong anywhere else in Italy).

Thank you so much for your feedback! I did notice that Lucca is included in the Rick Steves guide to Florence and Tuscany. I've also been thinking about small city charm (like Lucca) vs a bigger city (like Bologna) with more area to explore. It looks like Lucca is only 1.5 hours from Florence, so it should be an easy route, flying into Florence.

If you can get the flight connections to work out, flying into PISA would make for easier connections to Lucca. Pisa is closer to Lucca and has a train station at the airport. FLorence does not.

Thanks Ron, I'll look at flights into Pisa. I'll be flying from Vienna, so I should be able to find flights into most major airports.
