Lucca accommodation - historic but suitable for mobility challenged

We are planning to stay in Lucca for 3 nights in mid October 2025. We would like to stay in a historic hotel or B&B but I can only comfortably manage to walk up one flight of stairs. Any suggestions for suitable properties?

Our budget is 300-350 USD per night. We will not have a car and prefer to be inside the city walls.

If you can reserve a ground floor or 1st floor room, the L’antica Bifore Guest House is an exquisite, historic property inside the walls of Lucca.

Unfortunately, both of these lovely looking options are booked out for our dates.

Did you check Airbnb and booking.com using this filter? We found a Airbnb apartment inside the wall this way. No services of course, but there are limited accessible options there,

We enjoyed Hotel Ilaria this past May. All day snacks, free bikes, great breakfast, modern rooms, and friendly staff. The hotel is also part of several rewards programs, so maybe you can use points. Enjoy Lucca!

The B&B La Bohème has a bunch of interestingly decorated rooms, doesn't take itself too seriously and we enjoyed it.

It is up one flight of stairs but be aware that traditional architecture in Lucca was to have a ground floor tall enough for carriages and then family living started on the 1st floor - what we could call the 2nd floor. That means that in old buildings that first flight of stairs can extra tall and not your standard 10-12 steps. If you are limited to "a flight" of stairs you may find that Lucca first flights count as a couple of normal flights. So rather than ask about flights you might ask "How many steps or stairs is it." and in general they will know.

Enjoy Lucca,
