“Low stress” overnight between Milan and Venice

Hello everybody,

I’m looking for suggestions for a nice, “easy” place to break up my Nice to Trieste train journey. I love long train rides, but I love lugging my bags between multiple connections after 2.5 weeks a little less than I remembered. ;). Anyway, I am thinking Verona, Padua, or Vicenza. All sound lovely and I know one day isn’t time to do justice to any of them, but I’d be interested in people’s suggestions.

Basically, I’d be arriving mid-afternoon on a Friday and leaving at some point on Saturday. By “Low stress” I mean.an easy transfer from train to walkable/enjoyable area, where I can get a pleasant dinner, take some photos, soak in the atmosphere, etc. Anything the following day would be a bonus. The train station doesn’t have to be walking distance, but I wouldn’t want a long or complicated transfer or taxi ride.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Caroline
P.S. This will be a Friday overnight, if that has any relevance.

We had a very enjoyable stay in Vicenza and also have visited Padua and Verona. You can’t go wrong with either one but I’m guessing might be less crowded.

How about Densenzano del Garda? It is a smaller place on Lake Garda, with much to see and local excursions. Very relaxed on a warm summer evening.
