Low fare within italy

We will be flying from the states to Venice for a cruise, instead of flying round trip we're considering open jaw Venice/Rome. After the cruise we were thinking of taking
a flight out of Venice to Catania then fly home from Rome. Should we purchase separate tickets... open jaw Venice/Rome and then Venice to Catania/Catania to Rome? Of course this plan is pending air prices. Thanks for any suggestions

Also pay close attention to the specific airports you are flying into and out of. Some of the budget airlines use airports that are far from the city you think they're in, thus time-consuming and costly to get to.

If you see that Alitalia flies a route within Italy that interests you, be sure to go to their "International" website: https://www.alitalia.com/en_en/. This has the same prices as their Italian website, but has an English option which the Italian website lacks. The US website has much higher prices - for the exact same flights!

Yes, Alitalia allows a free checked bag and has a more generous carryon allowance than the budget carriers, so it can be a better deal in the end. Do a dummy booking (up to the point where you put in your credit card) to learn about all fees on a flight, before making a decision on which carrier to use (particularly Catania to Rome, which has multiple carrier options).

Do book these tickets within Italy as soon as you are sure of your plans. The prices only go up closer to travel - sometimes WAY up.
