Low fare airlines & car rental in Orvieto

Planning a trip to Italy for December. The low fare airlines like Condor and Norwegian hold appeal with their business class/premium flex rates for the long haul part of the flight. Their rates are so much cheaper than business class on other airlines, but am concerned there are reasons they are so cheap. Anyone flown business/prem flex on either who can comment? Cost is important but comfort does as well.

And for Italy looking to use trains for bulk of our trip but will spend a weekend in Orvieto and plan to get a car to explore Umbria. Ideas?

Thanks!

There’s a hertz rent a car next to the train station in Orvieto. Also Rome is just an hr away by train.

Norwegian has not been around as long so their overhead (less senior pilot personnel to pay high salaries to) is a lot lower than the usual suspects. That is part why the prices are lower. They don't much advertising either; it is more a word of mouth.

There is a car rental at the Orvieto train station.

Unless the Orvieto Hertz office has moved again, as of summer 2016, it was no longer directly across from the train station, and we had to do some hunting to find it. Here's where it was, and may still be located: exit the train station, cross the grassy area in front of the station, turn left and walk one long block to the gas station on your right. Turn right and cross through the gas station's parking lot to the street on the other side of the gas station. The Hertz office is there, across the street from the gas station, and many of the Hertz cars are now parked in a lot adjacent to the gas station. This may sound convoluted, but it will make sense once you are there. Note: you can NOT see the Hertz office from the train station any more; it is NOT in the piazza area around the train station (unless, as noted, it has moved again!).

In my opinion, the most-coveted benefit of the top service class on most trans-Atlantic flights are the lie-flat beds, which I believe I would love to have in the direction toward Europe, to get some sleep. Condor, for instance, claims to have these in long-haul Business Class, although the spacing may still be tighter than other carriers. On the way home to the US, I'm never trying to sleep, just watching movies, so a good selection of free movies is appreciated.
