Loved Taormina! Where to next?

My husband and I took a recent trip to Italy and loved Taormina. We have also been to Venice, Florence, Rome which were fine, just too busy for us. We loved Pienza, cinque terre but our favorite was Taormina. We loved the small town feel but still lots to do, restaurants, shopping, people watching. Taormina was great because we stayed up top but headed down to the beach as needed. I'm not much of a mountain person so I'd say first preference near the beach, but would love to hear of similar vibe spots in the hills if there are such.

Does anyone have suggestions for next towns /places that are similar to Taormina to try for our next trip to Italy?

Thanks!
Jessica

There are plenty of places like Taormina to choose from, in the mountains, on the hills, on the beach. But first you need to zero in a specific region because otherwise 2500 characters aren’t enough to list them all.

If you plan to return to Sicily, I highly recommend to consider going to Ortigia, the historic center of Syracuse.
You may also like Agrigento, Piazza Armerina, Noto, Cefalù, Erice.

I’ve also enjoyed Lago Maggiore ( I stayed in Baveno but Stresa is great)
Lucca, Siena, Orvieto, Assisi, Spello, Spoleto,
Verona, Padova, Varenna (Lago Como),
and Ravenna.

There are way too many beautiful places in Italy! My wish list just keeps getting longer and longer!

Thank you so much for all the recommendations! I can't wait to look into them. With the exception of Ravello on the Amalfi coast I haven't looked into most of these locations previously.
