You might enjoy Google's Arts and Culture's look at this famous 15th century woodblock print map, La Veduta del la Catena ("the chain map" in the Palazzo Vecchio) --- it zeroes in on various parts of the map and describes the major buildings and other monuments it shows. I love this kind of thing and learned a lot from it!
