Los Angeles to Venice to Tuscany and return

I am attending a writers' retreat in Tuscany 9/5-10/2025. I want to spend three days in Venice before I go to Tuscany (arriving by train or bus or rental car in the morning on 9/5). I would like to fly nonstop to Venice, but I believe the only way to do that is through JFK. I have the use of someone's Amex points so I can fly business. How should I get from Venice to Tuscany? Should I return to Venice from Tuscany at the end of the retreat or perhaps fly out of Florence? Any suggestions, directions, guidance is welcomed.

Where specifically in Tuscany could make a difference, but most likely you will take a train from Venice to Florence and then change to local transport (depending on location). Outbound airports could include Florence, Pisa, even Rome if you are in southern Tuscany. Just search "multi-city" if you have no reason to return to Venice.

There are direct flights to Venice from Newark EWR (United) and PHL (American)as well.

Look for multi city flights —Google Flights is a great tool but book with the actual airline

Look for return from Rome or Milan
There won’t be any direct to US from Florence

The retreat site is Siena, Italy. The two responses I have gotten here have really helped me begin formulating an itinerary. Thank you.

We are flying LAX to Milan this spring ( and onto Venice.) Our preference is to get over the pond in one flight. Once you're in Europe, there's many options if the second flight is canceled/ delayed. However, if your US connecting flight has a major problem, you may not get across the pond until the next day. I'm speaking from experience.

Also, one gets more uninterrupted time for sleep on the longer west coast flights to the continent. You want to enjoy the lie-flat beds in business. Flights from the east coast don't give you as much sleep time.

We found that flying into Venice was very expensive this year, so we chose Milan. Not sure how that translates into points.

Have a great trip.
